Техно(англ. Techno) - форма электронной танцевальной музыки, которая возникла в Детройте, штат Мичиган (США) в середине-конце 1980-х годов. Первая запись об использовании слово техно (techno), со ссылкой на жанр музыки, была в 1988 году. Сейчас существуют много направлений в techno - музыке, но Детройт - техно рассматривается как фундамент, на котором были построены многочисленные поджанры.
Изначально techno возникло из слияния европейской электронной музыки и афро-американской музыки в стиле фанк, электро, Чикаго хаус и электрик джаз. На развитие техно повлияло и футуристическое настроение американского капиталистического общества - в частности книга "Третья волна” Элвина Тоффлера. Это уникальное сочетание техно с эстетикой называют афрофутуризм. Для продюсеров, таких как Derrick May, передача души от тела к машинам часто становилось главной заботой; это по сути выражение технологической духовности. Таким образом техно музыка своей механизацией поражала современное сознание.
Рождением techno можно назвать середину 1980-х годов. Его отцами стали школьные приятели из Детройта Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May и Эдди Фоулкс.В конце 80-х выпустили несколько релизов: Atkins as Model 500, Flintstones, and Magic Juan. И первой волной эммигрантов были Carl Craig, Octave One, Jay Denham, Kenny Larkin, Stacey Pullen, Jeff Mills, Mike Banks, и Robert Hood.Особую популярность техно получило в Германии, потому Берлин называют неофициальной столицей.
